| NOV 19, '11 | Greetings from Wooster, Ohio! I'll be here for a couple of days performing with the Harlem Quartet. As I sit in a quiet, restful bed & breakfast, I can't help but feel energized thinking about the amazing few days we've had. Last week, we arrived home to New York from a performance in Lexington, Kentucky and dove straight into a project with the fantastic composer/sax/bass clarinet/flute jazz player Tim Garland. Tim flew over from the UK and met the quartet in Manhattan, where we rehearsed and recorded a couple of great tunes (one classical, one jazz) that he had arranged for us. To top it off, we spent 3 nights at the Blue Note performing sextets with jazz icons Chick Corea (piano) and Gary Burton (vibraphone). Getting to spend some serious time with those guys was amazing--I've never met more humble, positive, down-to-earth musical geniuses. And to share the stage with them was a total thrill. In other Chick Corea-related news...A few months back, the quartet led an orchestra of incredible musicians in a 5-day recording session of his jazz piano concerto "Continents" for jazz quartet and orchestra, and followed it up with a session for Chick and Gary's upcoming album, "Hot House." Keep an eye out for the original tune "Mozart Goes Dancing" on that album--it's a sextet featuring Chick, Gary and the Harlem Quartet! I feel so fortunate to experience music-making with these incredible people--and to be reminded again how music really does soothe the soul. Have a great Thanksgiving, and hope to see you soon! |
| JUN 14, '11 | I am very happy to check in from Vermont, where I am currently spending another incredible summer at the Marlboro Music Festival. Being able to to work in depth with artists like Pete Wiley and Michael Tree on repertoire such as Schubert's sublime String Quintet in C has been a dream come true. Marlboro Music comes to a close in mid-August, at which point I have a few performances with the Mark Morris Dance Group in New York. After that, I join back up with my cohorts in the Harlem Quartet to kick off another exciting season. Hope to see you at a show! |
